What is Edgerunners 2 about?
It’s a brand-new, standalone series from CD Projekt Red and Studio Trigger, four years after the first one. It doesn’t continue David and Lucy’s story, so you can jump straight in.
The new crew:
- Weak Kingsley, a veteran edgerunner once known as “King,” now forced to live without his chrome.
- D, a Snake Nation netrunner out for revenge.
- Roman Carax, a young film nerd who wants to document Night City’s real stories.
- Talia Yang, raised in the corporate towers and now running with the Maelstrom gang.
It’s directed by Kai Ikarashi, in his first series as director, with Bartosz Sztybor as showrunner and writer. Clancy Brown voices Weak in the English dub, and according to several reports, Hideo Kojima is back as Hideyoshi Oshima, the braindance director from the game.
What’s in Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5?
CD Projekt Red is calling it the “Edgerunners 2 Update.” Confirmed so far:
- New items and features inspired by the anime.
- Cyberware customization.
- A new dual-wielding playstyle.
No new quests or areas have been announced. Full details and patch notes drop on October 21 during a special REDstreams broadcast at 15:00 UTC on Twitch, YouTube and Steam. That’s 11am ET in the US, 4pm in the UK and 2am on October 22 in Sydney.
Which platforms get it?
- PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S: October 22.
- Nintendo Switch 2: “shortly” after, no exact date yet.
- PS4 and Xbox One: no. Those versions stopped getting new content in 2023.
Why it matters
It’s the easiest time to start, or come back. To celebrate the premiere, Cyberpunk 2077 is $17.99 on Steam (down from $59.99) and Phantom Liberty is $17.99 too, until October 26. The first Edgerunners sent a huge wave of players back to the game, and CD Projekt clearly wants a repeat.
