GTA 6 isn’t out yet and it’s already breaking the charts. According to Sensor Tower data reported by GamesIndustry.biz on October 20, Rockstar’s game had about 6.08 million digital pre-orders as of October 13. That’s roughly $594 million before a single copy has shipped.
One caveat up front: these are estimates from a third-party analytics firm. Rockstar and Take-Two haven’t shared any numbers, and the figures don’t include boxed copies.
How many pre-orders does GTA 6 have?
Around 6 million, based on Sensor Tower’s model. For context, the firm compared it with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which had the biggest opening weekend in Call of Duty history at the time, at $800 million. Looking only at US digital pre-orders, GTA 6 is 148% ahead of MW2 at the same point before launch.
And the snapshot was taken before the launch trailer and the Miami street campaign, which both kicked off on October 15. So the real number is probably higher by now.
Which edition are people buying?
The expensive one. The $99.99 Ultimate Edition accounts for the vast majority of pre-orders, ahead of the $79.99 Standard Edition (US PlayStation Store prices). The platform split looks like this:
- PlayStation: 74% of pre-orders.
- Xbox: 26%.
What made pre-orders spike?
Netflix. Sensor Tower’s September report showed pre-orders bringing in $2.4 million to $3.8 million a day between late July and August. The day after the GTA VI: An Extended Look special dropped, that jumped to around $16.3 million in a single day, roughly six times more.
When does GTA 6 come out?
- Release date: November 19, 2026.

- Pre-load: from November 12.
- PC: not announced.
